Coca-Cola Closing in on Vitamin Water Print E-mail

According to a Beverage Digest report, Coca-Cola has filed a premerger notification with U.S. regulators about the proposed acquisition of vitamin water maker Glaceau. Glaceau, based in Queens, New York, is 30 percent owned by India's Tata Tea Ltd. Glaceau's Vitamin Water is the number two enhanced water brand after Pepsi's Propel. Coca-Cola has it's own enhanced water under the Dasani Nutriwater brand. Industry watcher suggests that the deal may be worth US$4 billion.

Following the success of the "Happiness Factor" television commercial from last year, Coca-Cola has extended the theme to the award-winning web animation "Happiness Factory" localized for 40 markets around the world. An interactive version is being created by Psyop and Shift Control where users could apply for jobs and explore the roles of the four characters introduced in the commercial: Mortar Man, Chinoink, Kissy Puppy and Capper.

Coca-Cola to Use Rebiana Print E-mail

According to an Associated Press story, the Coca-Cola Company has filed 24 patent applications related to utilizing, formulating and processing high potency sweeteners, including rebiana. Rebiana is a natural sweetener made from leaves of the South American stevia plant and is jointly developed by Coca-Cola and Cargill Inc. The herb isn't approved in the U.S. for use in food and beverages, but is approved in 12 other countries, including Brazil, Japan and China. It is reported that the taste of rebiana can be sweeter than that of sugar.
