Cargill Introduces Truvia Print E-mail

Cargill has just announced a new all natural sweetener Truvia on May 15, 2008. According to Amy Dungan, who was invited to a webinar hosted by the Coca-Cola Company and Cargill, the new sweetner Rebiana is an extract from stevia, a native herbal plant of South America, has been in development by the two companies since 2005. After three years of development and working with FDA on safety investigation, Cargill has formally launched Truvia brand sweetener based on Rebiana. The website is http://www.truvia.com. The Coca-Cola Company however has not provided a timeline of when Truvia will be used in its beverage products.

Baja Fresh Signs with Coca-Cola Print E-mail

Thousand Oaks, California-based Fresh Enterprises announced today that it will offer soft drinks, juices and water from the Coca-Cola Company at its restaurants. Under a new five-year agreement with Coca-Cola, Baja Fresh's 291-Mexican restaurant chain will serve Coca-Cola brand soft drinks, Minute Maid juices and Evian and Dasani bottled waters nationwide.

SunTrust Sells Coca-Cola Shares Print E-mail

SunTrust announced today that it has sold 4.5 million, or 9 percent, of its shares in the Coca-Cola Company this morning. It will use proceeds to help fund a $750 million to $1 billion buyback of its own stock this year. SunTrust Bank is the largest bank in the South and the seventh largest in the US. The bank is the second largest institutional shareholder of Coca-Cola stocks after Berkshire Hathaway. In addition to taking Coca-Cola public in 1919, Trust Company of Georgia, the predecessor of SunTrust Banks Inc. also safekeeps a copy of the original formula for Coca-Cola in a vault.

Coca-Cola to Release Cans Featuring Olympic Athletes Print E-mail

Coca-Cola will release Olympic collectible cans and FridgePacks bearing the Coca-Cola logo in different languages on May 19, 2008. Twenty-ounce PET bottles will have labels with multiple languages including those of the Bangladesh, China, Egypt, Georgia, Israel, Korea, Nepal and Sri Lanka. A special Coca-Cola "Six Pack" of athletes will feature gold medalists Natalie Coughlin (swimming), Steven Lopez (taekwondo) and Sanya Richards (track & field); Olympians LeBron James (USA basketball) and Andy Potts (triathlon); and Olympic hopeful Shawn Johnson (gymnastics).
